Edged by Trees

Coloured ink, gesso and coloured pencil. I made a few sketches of these trees and a few paintings from the sketches. I like exploring the mixture of order and chaos between the planted the seeded and the tangle of undergrowth.

I make these large pieces from A6 sketches made on my walks around Freuchie. I start with bright coloured ink creating the harmonies and discords, that describe the lie of the land, the weather and the light. I layer coloured ink and gesso, creating different hues, I add coloured pencil, chalk, paint - whatever will work to enhance detail, texture or movement.
